"Creating paintings with a spirit of adventure - paintings that invite you to step inside, look a little closer, and find something new to experience, each time."
My work is rooted in the landscape and the coastlines that have fascinated me since I was a child, the natural spaces where I find a personal sense of freedom and relaxation. I come back to these landscapes over and over again because they're what I know, but also what I don't know. Some landscapes and seascapes are huge and mysterious, others are small and familiar. Wild spaces and untamed seas keep pulling me in.
My creative planning begins outdoors, where I gather ideas through sketching, photography and just staring into space. I look for ideas for my larger canvases by making photo collages and abstract studies using textures and marks inspired by photos and sketches. These abstract studies are then cropped, collaged and played with; then stored in my sketchbooks in the facinating search for ideas and inspiration.
My finished paintings aren't literal views, they're the sheer fun of painting and enjoyment of colour - a combination of textures and impressions. I'd like you to share the fun and excitement of exploring a painting and finding your own landscapes and memories within a painting that resonates with you.
I dont think enjoying abstraction requires any special knowledge. An abstract painting is the observer’s open invitation to reflect and discover or maybe just stop and stare. A painting can act as a quiet anchor in a busy day, offering a moment of calm whilst prompting the imagination. I hope my pieces bring energy into your home—a restorative view to rest your eyes on, and a gentle spark of inspiration whenever you look closer.
